{"id":146,"date":"2007-06-06T23:05:05","date_gmt":"2007-06-06T23:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atourcity.com\/bkgoswami.com\/?p=146"},"modified":"2013-10-06T23:07:13","modified_gmt":"2013-10-06T23:07:13","slug":"love-yourself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atourcity.com\/bkgoswami.com\/love-yourself\/","title":{"rendered":"Love Yourself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Love Yourself!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">That&#8217;s an interesting title for a Krishna conscious blog-&#8220;Love Yourself.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Many devotees are under the impression that we should love Krishna and<br \/>\ndenigrate ourselves!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">It is understandable that they think this way because there are many<br \/>\nstatements that one may misunderstand such as:<br \/>\n1. Thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street<br \/>\n2. The soul is one ten thousandth the tip of the hair in size<br \/>\n3. The individual soul is tiny<br \/>\n4. One should be selfless<br \/>\n5. Etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Also we may come in contact with people who in the name of Krishna<br \/>\nconsciousness authority denigrate us, telling us that we are useless,<br \/>\nhopeless, fallen, degraded, in maya, sense gratifiers, bhogis, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">In addition we may be reminded about our past &#8220;wonderful&#8221; (vikarmic)<br \/>\nactivities in this world, and this remembrance will add to the negativity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">So, this negativity may culminate in a lack of self esteem and even self<br \/>\nhate. This can lead to depression at worst and also deflate our enthusiasm<br \/>\nto serve Krishna as we may be think that we are a &#8220;hopeless case.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">I am writing about this subject matter because many devotees have contacted<br \/>\nor talked to me about this mental state. When I hear devotees talking like<br \/>\nthis it causes tears to come to my eyes because I know that all the devotees<br \/>\nare very very dear to Krishna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Even though ontologically we may be small-we are important to Krishna. We<br \/>\nare not small in Krishna&#8217;s eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Take the story of Gopa Kumar in the Brhad Bhagavatamrta for example. Krishna<br \/>\nwas feeling so much love for Gopa Kumar and so much hankering for his<br \/>\nassociation in the spiritual world, that Krishna personally became Gopa<br \/>\nKumar&#8217;s spiritual master.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">You may say that Gopa Kumar is a special devotee, and that is true. But, it<br \/>\nis a fact that Krishna personally is the Caitya Guru of all of us residing<br \/>\nin our hearts and personally takes the trouble to direct us to our spiritual<br \/>\nmaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Even before we take to Krishna consciousness, Krishna is residing in the<br \/>\nheart waiting for us to realize that our real happiness is in relating to<br \/>\nHim rather than this external energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">So, Krishna considers us significant, important, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">When Gopa Kumar finally goes back to Krishnaloka, Krishna faints in ecstacy<br \/>\nupon receiving him. Even Krishna&#8217;s associates can not understand what is<br \/>\ngoing on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Krishna feels the same way about us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">There is an interesting statement in the Isopanisad (Mantra 6):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">&#8220;He who sees systematically everything in relation to the Supreme Lord, who<br \/>\nsees all living entities as His parts and parcels, and who sees the Supreme<br \/>\nLord within everything never hates anything or any being.&#8221;<br \/>\nSo we are parts and parcels of Krishna. Therefore we should not hate<br \/>\nourselves. On the other hand since we are supposed to love Krishna we should<br \/>\nlove all his parts and parcels and that includes ourselves too!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">What does that mean, to love oneself?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">It means to picture or visualize or imagine how you want to be. Forget about<br \/>\nall the negativity; whether the negativity comes from yourself or from<br \/>\nothers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">If you think negatively that is what you are meditating on and those<br \/>\nthoughts will impede your spiritual life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Here are some things you can think about:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">1. Radha and Krishna love me and want me to be with Them in the<br \/>\nspiritual world!<br \/>\n2. Taking care of my spiritual needs will not impede my spiritual<br \/>\nprogress<br \/>\n3. Taking care of my material needs will not impede my spiritual<br \/>\nprogress<br \/>\n4. I am an eternal soul, full of bliss and knowledge!<br \/>\n5. I have an eternal relationship with Radha and Krishna and will<br \/>\nrealize this relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">And don&#8217;t remain in a situation where others are denigrating you. You owe it<br \/>\nto yourself and to Krishna to reject situations that are unfavorable for<br \/>\nKrishna consciousness and accept favorable situations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">Have positive spiritual self-esteem!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Love Yourself!!!
